Debit, Credit & SNAP Cards

We Gladly Accept Debit, Credit and SNAP cards!

Montana Access SNAP CardThe market gladly accepts debit, credit and SNAP cards!

Shoppers can bring their cards to the transaction terminal and receive tokens to use while making purchases. Shoppers may bring back unused tokens, and those funds will be refunded to their cards. Vendors have been supplied with a manual and training on the acceptance of credit/debit tokens, which will be treated just like cash, and SNAP tokens, which may be used to purchase eligible food items. Did you know that you may also use SNAP benefits to purchase plants and seeds for food? We're excited to facilitate access to fresh, local, healthy food for members of our community participating in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

Furthermore, the market covers card transaction fees so that our vendors don't have to; we've been able to keep our vendor fees at the same low rates as last season. It is our hope that offering these alternative purchasing methods for the convenience of our shoppers and vendors will forward the direct producer-to-consumer experience that the market makes possible for our community during the fall, winter, and spring months.

Of course, you may always use cash and check at the market!

The National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT) produced the Montana Farmers Market Electronic Benefit Transfer Manual: How to Accept SNAP Benefits at Your Market. This guide is an outcome of a Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services grant to pilot the implementation of an EBT card program at farmers markets in Montana.
